Andrew Wong

Andrew has been registered as a Psychologist with AHPRA since 2015, a New South Wales Solicitor at the Supreme Court of New South Wales since 2017 and at the High Court of Australia since 2018, and a Psychology Board-Approved Supervisor since 2024. He is one of the few professionals in Australia who are dually qualified and registered as a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist and Solicitor.

As a solicitor, Andrew previously practised criminal law and civil litigation, where he routinely attended the Local Court, District Court, and Supreme Court of NSW as an advocate and instructing solicitor.

In research and the university system, Andrew has worked as a Research Psychologist at Justice Health & Forensic Mental Health Network, where he investigated the physical and mental health needs of inmates and juvenile detainees across NSW. He also worked as a Research Psychologist at NICM Health Research Institute, Western Sydney University, where he managed clinical trials of natural psychotropic medication for mental disorders, such as OCD, PTSD, and Schizophrenia.

Andrew has been working with children and adults with complex mental health and neurodevelopmental needs since 2011. Andrew completed his Clinical Psychology Registrar training in a paediatrics mental health clinic, the Forensic Hospital, and a forensic psychology clinic. As a Clinical Psychologist, Andrew was the Clinical Lead at a large clinical psychology clinic and the Head of Forensic Services at a forensic psychology clinic, where he managed and supervised a team of psychologists.

Andrew was the longest serving Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Elver Program, which is a partnership between DCJ and NSW Health, where he offered statewide tertiary-level mental health services (assessment, treatment, and consultation liaison) within a multidisciplinary team for out-of-home care children with intensive and complex needs, and their families and care system. Children referred to the service were typically affected by chronic trauma with complex developmental profiles, significant mental health needs, and behavioural challenges. These children were at the highest end of severity and risk in NSW and required the highest level of specialisation and clinical skills. Andrew’s role at Elver also involved operating a Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) assessment clinic and managing care teams for each child on his caseload to advocate, influence, and support systemic changes for the child’s care.

In 2022, Andrew founded AWP, where he routinely produces and supervises psychologist in completing court reports in criminal, immigration, child protection, and family matters. Andrew has completed forensic psychological assessments involving mental health issues, neurocognitive functioning, risk of re-offending, and parenting capacity and needs.

Andrew is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.
